I am absolutely delighted to be an Ambassador for Access Your Life! Having spent some time talking with both Felix and Lauren - their passion and care to make things easier and more readily available for the disabled community is clear, and I look forward to supporting them with this great initiative.
A little bit about me - I am a T4 Paraplegic as a result of a motorbike accident in 2001. I remember when I first had my accident it was a very scary and daunting time. You are very reliant on the advice from the healthcare professionals, but when they themselves are not living with a disability sometimes getting advice from people that are can be invaluable. I hope that I am able to share experiences and knowledge that will help other people who may find themselves in a similar situation.
Following my discharge from hospital I started playing wheelchair tennis and have since gone on to represent Paralympics GB at three successive Paralympic Games, Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016, twice winning Bronze in the women’s doubles event!
I remember the early days though and trying to raise funds for my first tennis wheelchair. Access to suitable equipment at an affordable price has long been a bug bearer of mine and I think the opportunity to buy and sell second hand mobility equipment will be a great help to the disabled community.
