Hands of Warriors – Wheelchair Gloves

USERS RATING:
(Based on the users needs, lifestyle and preferences.)

Item Description:
Gloves are made from premium soft leather, making them comfortable to wear and practical to use.

Source of Item:
Hands of Warriors

Diagnosis:
Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS)

Personal Opinion:
Since becoming dependent on the use of a wheelchair, I have searched far and wide for a pair of gloves with the following features:
– prevents my hands from seizing up in the cold,
– can be worn in varying weather conditions,
– doesn’t inhibit my ability to grip push rims and hold essential items,
– available in fashion friendly designs,
– looks more like something from a high end retailer, as opposed to a stereotypical disability aid.

Because I haven’t been able to find something that accommodates both my needs and wants, I doubted whether it was really possible for Hands of Warriors to fuse fashion and functionality. Yet they have exceeded my every expectation!

Specification:
Made from a natural premium grade leather originating from hair sheep; a breed which produces hair instead of wool and is prized for their durable yet soft leather qualities. Meaning these warm, wind shielding gloves will soften slightly over time. So it’s important to check the online size guide prior to purchasing, in order to fully appreciate the gloves capabilities. If you are unsure about which size or style to choose from, simply get in touch with the highly accommodating Hands of Warriors team!

Even though there are a variety of styles and colours for men and women, many of the designs are gender neutral and coordinate nicely. They don’t look like a stereotypical disability related accessory, making them suitable for people of all abilities to wear. Best of all, they don’t cost a small fortune, so would make the perfect gift either for yourself or a loved one!

Packaging & Delivery:
Upon ordering a single pair of gloves, my package was delivered within a few days and was slim enough to fit through the letterbox yet protective enough to survive any manhandling. Using 100% recyclable materials, the packaging was easy to open and beautifully presented. The attention to detail really highlighted the high quality product inside!

Using The Item:
Even though it can be quite difficult to put on/take off gloves on when you have limited dexterity, the combination of soft materials make it easy to slide over your hand! To my amazement, this did not impact the hard wearing exterior, prevent the item from holding its shape, or reduce my gripping abilities. In fact, I am yet to find a surface or object that hasn’t been easier to cling onto whilst wearing these gloves. A feature is really handy when your push rims become slippery in the pouring rain, or you want to hold an item without having to remove your gloves. Your hands are well protected from any dirt or grit that gets transferred from your tyres to the push rim and onto your hands; whilst the gloves are not going to get damaged by such elements.

After initially ordering the “Original Black Wheelchair Gloves”, I couldn’t resist ordering the “Tan Decorative Strap Wheelchair Gloves”. Means I now have a set of fingerless gloves that are super cute, very feminine and thin enough to wear on super hot days. Along with a pair of winter warmers that have a soft fleece lining, neutral design and elasticated lining in the wrists. Both designs look completely different, whilst looking nothing like my other wheelchair gloves that are very masculine, cause skin irritation from the Velcro, and need replacing very quickly.

Conclusion:
Hands of Warriors wheelchair gloves are comfortable to wear and practical to use, whether it’s for a few minutes or several hours. Best of all, I now have something stylish to wear this winter, whilst also ensuring I can still grip my wheels, hold my phone and stay warm! Would 100% recommend to anyone living with a disability; even if you don’t use a wheelchair, they can help you maintain a hold of other mobility aids such as crutches and walking frames!
