Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS)
Since becoming dependent on the use of a wheelchair, I have searched far and wide for a pair of gloves with the following features:
– prevents my hands from seizing up in the cold,
– can be worn in varying weather conditions,
– doesn’t inhibit my ability to grip push rims and hold essential items,
– available in fashion-friendly designs,
– looks more like a high-end retail product, as opposed to a stereotypical disability aid.
Because I haven’t been able to find something that accommodates both my needs and wants, I doubted whether Hands of Warriors could fuse fashion and functionality. Yet their gloves have exceeded my every expectation!
Made from a natural premium grade leather originating from hair sheep; a breed which produces hair instead of wool and is prized for their durable yet soft leather qualities. Meaning these warm, wind shielding gloves will soften slightly over time. So it’s important to check the online size guide before purchasing, to fully appreciate the glove’s capabilities. If you are unsure about which size or style to choose from, simply get in touch with the Hands of Warriors team – they are super friendly and really accommodating!
Even though there are a variety of styles and colours for men and women, many of the designs are gender-neutral and coordinate nicely. They don’t look like a stereotypical disability-related accessory, making them suitable for people of all abilities to wear. Best of all, they don’t cost a small fortune, so would make the perfect gift for either yourself or a loved one!
Packaging & Delivery:
Upon ordering a single pair of gloves, my package was delivered within a few days and was slim enough to fit through the letterbox, yet protective enough to survive any manhandling. Using 100% recyclable materials, the packaging was easy to open and beautifully presented. The attention to detail really accentuated the high-quality product inside!
Using The Item:
Even though it can be quite difficult to put on and take off gloves when you have limited dexterity, but this combination of soft materials make it easier to slide the glove over your hand! Without impacting the hard-wearing exterior, preventing the item from holding its shape, or reducing your gripping abilities. In fact, I am yet to find a surface or object that hasn’t been easier to cling onto whilst wearing these gloves. A feature is really handy when your push rims become slippery in the pouring rain, or you want to hold an item without having to remove your gloves. So whilst your hands are well protected from any dirt or grit that gets transferred via your tyres, the gloves are not going to get damaged by such elements.
After initially ordering the “Original Black Wheelchair Gloves”, I couldn’t resist ordering the “Tan Decorative Strap Wheelchair Gloves”. Meaning I now have a set of fingerless gloves that are super cute, subtly feminine, and thin enough to wear on super hot days. Along with a pair of winter warmers with a soft fleece lining, neutral design, and elasticated wrist linings. Both designs look completely different, yet still share so many incisive qualities; unlike my other wheelchair gloves which look very masculine, cause skin irritation, and require frequent replacement.
Whether it’s for a few minutes or several hours, I now have something stylish to wear all year round without hindering my ability to grip my wheels, hold my phone, and stay warm! Because of this, I would 100% recommend this product to anyone living with a disability! Even if you don’t use a wheelchair, these gloves will help you to hold other mobility devices such as crutches and walking frames!
