SMOOV One – Powered Attachment

Black rectangular attachment with a single small wheel to the rear of the wheelchair frame. The hand control is easy to use (push and hold to power on, rotate to adjust speed etc) and can be connected to a smartphone app to set the speed/acceleration. It can easily be removed, similar to the SmartDrive.

Personal Opinion:
I encountered many electrical issues with the SmartDrive so decided to change to the SMOOV. I instantly found it easier to use, as the hand control is much easier to operate in comparison to the SmartDrive wrist strap. Another huge benefit to me is that you can reduce and increase the speed of the SMOOV, whereas the SmartDrive requires you have to stop and start again if you want to go slower. You can also customise the speed/acceleration settings within the app, which is good as everyone has different needs. For example, it can go up to 10km/h, but personally I find this a little bit fast so I have limited mine to 7km/h.

The range on it is very good and I easily get 13-15km on a single charge. It is super easy to remove and put in a car, which helps to keep the chair lightweight. The backlight is a nice added feature and really makes you impossible to miss at night!

The SMOOV doesn’t work brilliantly on grass or rough surfaces as there is not enough grip, but the good thing is that you can easily turn it off and manually use your wheelchair without the attachment getting in the way. The only downside is that you have to align the wheel in order to drive, which can be tricky in tight areas, but with practice, it has become much more manageable.

Finally, the SMOOV provides me with even more independence when combined with my RGK FrontWheel on my RGK Maxlite manual wheelchair!
