Triride Mad Max – Powered Attachment

USERS RATING:
(Based on the users needs, lifestyle and preferences.)

Item Description:
Powered bike attachment that turns a manual wheelchair into a fully electric trike. Attaches onto two (lightweight) clamps that stay on your wheelchair permanently.

Battery Life:
The technical sheet says 80km, but I’ve personally reached 60km.

Source of Item:
RGK Wheelchairs

Diagnosis:
Not Disclosed

Personal Opinion:
I upgraded my Firefly bike to the Triride Mad Max, mostly due to issues I had with the installation of the Firefly where I either had to sacrifice the amount of grip or had to reach very far ahead for my handlebars. The Triride also has a quicker attachment option, though it can be slightly fiddly to get the bike out of the attachment if the floor isn’t level.

Things I Really Like About The Triride:
The assisted loading! Due to the large batteries, the bike is too heavy to push up. So you can use cruise control in reverse to lift the front wheels off the floor.
Having cruise control that not only keeps the speed constant, it also works when you are going uphill or downhill.
The battery life, I get 60km out of a single charge.
The power to get on hills and go off-road.

This bike helps me get out more and tackle rougher terrains, which makes dog walking more fun as we can visit the forest. It has a larger, wide front wheel which makes the ride smoother and helps with grip. I haven’t tried the beach yet, but I imagine it would work well on compacted sand, but not quite as well on loose sand unless I get bigger off-road rear wheels. It is relatively heavy to get in the car, but I can’t drive myself so this isn’t something I had to consider,  as my partner can lift it in the boot without issues, even with the batteries on.
